Inshore Fishing Charters — Destin, FL

Target redfish, speckled trout, and more in the calm waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay.

What to expect

We journey through the calm waters of the Choctawhatchee Bay and intracoastal waterway, fishing over grass flats, oyster bars, and around bridges, jetties, and docks in search of redfish and speckled trout on light tackle spinning gear.

Other species you can expect depending on the time of year include Spanish mackerel, black snapper, sheepshead, bluefish, ladyfish (skipjacks), jack crevalle, and black drum.

We primarily use live bait fishing tactics but can accommodate artificial fishing upon request for more avid anglers. Inshore fishing charters in Destin are perfect for beginners, families, and experienced anglers — offering steady action, short run times, and some of the best shallow water fishing on the Emerald Coast.

Not sure whether to stay in the bay or head out into the nearshore Gulf? It’s your call — and if you’d rather leave it to the experts, your captain will recommend the best option based on where the fish have been biting and the day’s weather and water conditions.

Bay trips

Questions about bay fishing in Destin

What you catch, what it costs, and where the boat leaves from.

What do you catch on a Destin bay fishing trip?

Redfish and speckled trout are the mainstays over the grass flats, oyster bars, bridges and docks of Choctawhatchee Bay. Depending on the month you will also see Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, black drum, bluefish, ladyfish and jack crevalle. We fish light tackle spinning gear with live bait, and switch to artificials for anglers who ask.

How much does a bay fishing charter cost in Destin?

$800 for four hours, $1,000 for five hours and $1,200 for six hours. That is the rate for the boat, not per person. It covers up to four passengers, with each additional passenger $50, and includes rods, reels, bait, ice, tackle, the fishing licence for everyone aboard and fish cleaning at the dock.

Is bay fishing a good choice for beginners and families?

Yes. The bay is protected water, so it stays far calmer than the Gulf, and the fishing spots are close in, which means more time with a line in the water. For children under about ten, the two and three hour kids trips are usually the better fit.

Where do bay trips leave from and when?

Heron Harbor Marina, 314 Harbor Blvd, Destin, Florida 32541. Trips run seven days a week between 6am and 8pm. A $250 reservation fee holds your date and the balance is paid to the captain on the day.
